iREC / iARC Reporting Program

Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) has randomly selected licences to report fishing activity during a particular time frame. Each licence will only be selected once (either for one month of the iREC survey or the annual iARC survey), or may not be selected at all. Most licence holders only hold one licence per licence year so can only be selected once. However, if you buy more than one licence per year, each licence may be selected for a survey. Note that although selection for a survey is random, most adults with an annual licence will be selected. These surveys will provide essential catch and effort statistics for months, areas, and types of fishing for which other survey methods would be prohibitively expensive and/or impractical to conduct.
A condition of licence requires licence holders to provide information to DFO about sport fishing activity when asked. This includes completing this Reporting Program. Please refer to the condition of licence which is written on your licence, “Provision of information: The licence holder shall provide accurate information regarding their catch and fishing activities upon request of a creel surveyor and/or a researcher conducting the online iREC or iARC reporting programs, authorities designated under s. 61(5) of the Fisheries Act.” More information can be found here: https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/f-14/page-9.html#h-231914
If you DID NOT FISH, please click your reporting link found in your email and report it. DFO values your participation and thanks you for sharing information about your fishing activity. Information on the fraction of fishers that did not fish in Tidal Waters is important to ensure the statistics calculated from the Reporting Program responses are accurate.
