North Shore Transportation Survey
TAKE SURVEY HEREAs the population of the North Shore continues to grow, we need to plan for this region’s future transportation system and services. The North Shore Transportation Survey (NSTS) is part of the Integrated North Shore Transportation Planning Project (INSTPP). Your participation will go a long way in shaping how your community moves. By understanding how, where, and why residents travel within the North Shore, we can better plan our future transportation system and services.
Why should I do the survey?
If you received a letter or email from the City of North Vancouver, the District of North Vancouver, and the District of West Vancouver, you have been randomly selected to participate in the North Shore Transportation Survey.
The goal of the survey is to understand where people are going and how they get there. The information you provide will be used to make informed decisions on future planning for roads, public transit, and other transportation facilities.
Whatever your daily travel habits are, your input is valuable and will be used to guide future North Shore transportation planning. It's a huge opportunity to make a difference!
Who is conducting the survey?
The North Shore Transportation Survey is an initiative led by the City of North Vancouver, the District of North Vancouver, and the District of West Vancouver. An independent national research firm, Prairie Research Associates (PRA) Inc., is conducting the survey on their behalf.

How is my privacy protected?
All information that you provide will be kept strictly confidential. Your personal information will not be shared with any other individual or organization, in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
When reporting survey results, survey data is combined with other responses in the area and cannot be traced back to an individual or household.

What types of questions/information will I be asked for?
The North Shore Transportation Survey asks three different types of questions, including questions about your household, your demographics, and your usual travel patterns.
Questions about your household include things like the type of home you live in, the number of household members, and the number of vehicles and bicycles used by your household.
Questions about you include likes things your age and gender, whether you have a valid driver’s license, the location of your workplace or school, and how you usually travel to work, school, or for recreation.
Many survey questions will collect information regarding your travel on the most previous weekday. This includes things like your origin and destination, departure and arrival times, reasons for making the trip, and modes of travel (walking, cycling, transit, vehicle, etc.).
How can I participate?
You can access the survey by clicking the link below and entering the unique access code provided to you. The survey should take approximately 10-20 minutes online, depending on your answers.
TAKE SURVEY HEREYou can also schedule an appointment to complete the survey over the phone by calling us toll free at 1-888-877-674. Please leave a voicemail that includes your name, phone number, and when you would like to be contacted, as well as your secure access code which can be found on the letter or email you received.
The survey is available in other languages online, including Persian, Chinese, Cantonese, and Tagalog.

What will I get for participating?
As a thank you for participating, you may choose to enter a random draw for a chance to win a $500 cash prize! We will be randomly selecting five participants to win $500 via their choice of e-transfer or mailed cheque. All you have to do is complete the survey, and your name may be drawn once the study has concluded in mid-November, 2025.
