The Well-Being and Experiences (WE) Study

This study began in 2018 and gathers information from Manitobans 14 to 17 about health, well-being, and experiences with friends and family at home, at school, and in their community. The overall aim of this research is to improve the health and well-being of adolescents and their families by learning about both their positive and adverse experiences, and to then develop and/or modify evidence-based interventions designed to prevent and reduce negative outcomes associated with adverse experiences over the life course.

Approximately 1,000 adolescent and caregiver pairs participated in the initial study.
This research is a longitudinal study where participants will be re-contacted in the future to complete other questionnaires.
The current survey with then adolescent participants will ask about current life situations including how people feel about their health, well-being, and experiences with friends and family at home, at school, and in their community. This follow-up survey is interested in learning about experiences such as bullying and substance use or how these experiences may have changed for overtime. As well, the study is interested in learning about what protects adolescents and young adults from bad outcomes and what makes them resilient after experiencing adversity. Participating in this survey will help researchers learn more about the everyday life experiences and well-being of adolescents and young adults in Manitoba. This follow-up will NOT require participants to come down to the research centre with a parent, like in the initial study done in 2018-2019.
